Mary-Jo Rebelo concentrates her practice in the areas of commercial litigation and employment law.
Some of Mary-Jo’s recent and regular areas of representation include litigation involving commercial contracts, products liability litigation, insurance coverage disputes, violations of federal and state securities laws, accountant malpractice, business fraud, directors and officers litigation, and injunction actions to enforce restrictive covenants arising out of employment relationships. Mary-Jo also represents health care clients in false claims act/qui tam litigation.
In the area of products liability litigation, Mary-Jo has represented manufacturers, designers, distributors, retailers, as well as business and property owners in various industries in actions involving claims for strict liability and negligence.
In the area of insurance coverage litigation, Mary-Jo handles insurance coverage matters for both environmental and toxic tort liabilities. She has represented Fortune 50 companies as well as small and mid-size businesses in identifying and collecting insurance proceeds for a range of liabilities and losses. She has also been involved in cases seeking to recover insurance proceeds from first-party property carriers.
In the area of employment law, Mary-Jo regularly defends actions involving claims for race, sex, age and disability discrimination, as well as claims for sexual harassment, wrongful discharge and breach of employment contracts. Mary-Jo also counsels business clients regarding obligations under federal and state employment statutes and assists business clients in implementing human resources policies concerning recruitment, employee evaluation and discipline, severance procedures, and employee handbooks.
In 2008, Mary-Jo was honored as Woman of the Year by the Women’s Law Association of the Duquesne University School of Law. This award is meant to “honor the outstanding professional achievements of a Duquesne University School of Law alumna in the practice of and/or furtherance of law.” Nominees must exemplify professional, moral and ethical integrity, and must demonstrate a commitment to community service.
