February 12, 2015 | Houston Harbaugh today announced the election of three of its attorneys to its 2015 Executive Committee: John M. Hartzell, Jr., Mary-Jo Rebelo and Alex W. Thomson. The firm’s directors annually elect three directors to serve as members of the Executive Committee, which is responsible for the overall management of the firm.
John M. Hartzell, Jr. concentrates his practice in the areas of estate planning and estate and trust administration. He heads the firm’sEstates and Trusts Group. Hartzell also has experience with general corporate and income tax matters. In addition to being an attorney, he is a Certified Public Accountant (Pennsylvania) and spent over seven years in public accounting providing income tax advice to individuals, corporations and flow-through entities, such as partnerships and S-corporations. Hartzell received his Juris Doctorate from Duquesne University; an MBA from Clarion University; and a bachelor of science degree from Pennsylvania State University.
Mary-Jo Rebelo concentrates her practice in the areas of commerciallitigation andemployment law. Some of Mary-Jo’s recent and regular areas of representation include litigation involving commercial contracts, products liability litigation, insurance coverage disputes, violations of federal and state securities laws, accountant malpractice, business fraud, directors and officers litigation, and injunction actions to enforce restrictive covenants arising out of employment relationships. Rebelo graduated magna cum laude from Elms College. She received her Juris Doctorate from Duquesne University School of Law, cum laude, where she was Editor-in-Chief of the Duquesne Law Review (v. 26).
Alex W. Thomson concentrates his practice in the area ofbusiness law and heads the firm’s Business Law Department. He represents a wide range of business clients from start-ups to publicly traded companies. He represents clients in a diverse set of industries from steel to software. He has counseled clients in numerous corporate transactions, including sales, acquisitions, mergers, joint ventures and strategic alliances. Thomson has assisted clients in obtaining both public and private financing for their businesses, including venture capital financing. Thomson graduated from Boston University with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He received his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from the University of Pittsburgh where he was a member of the University of Pittsburgh’s Law Review. He has also earned a MBA from the University of Pittsburgh’s Katz Graduate School of Business.

James R. Carlisle, II is the head of the firm’s Growth and Exit Planning Group and a Director in the Corporate Department. He specializes in structuring, negotiating and closing mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and reorganizations, and he serves as corporate counsel for regional, national and international privately-held companies. Jim also advises emerging businesses in all stages of development, from formation to a liquidity exit event. Jim received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1991 and a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from the University of Pittsburgh in 1988.
