History of the Firm

A Tradition of Excellence

The firm was founded in 1985 by Anthony P. Picadio, Lynette Norton and C. Leon Sherman, who withdrew from the litigation group of a large, well-known Pittsburgh corporate law firm, in order to form a civil litigation firm which would provide high-quality, cost-effective representation to clients involved in litigation. Initially the firm was called Sherman & Picadio. After Mr. Sherman withdrew and others joined, the name became Picadio McCall Kane & Norton. In 1998 it became Picadio, McCall, Miller & Norton, and after the retirement of C. Robert McCall and the addition of Henry Sneath became Picadio Sneath Miller & Norton, P.C. (PSMN®)

From its founding until the present the firm has primarily been a litigation boutique with a specific emphasis on business, commercial, environmental, construction, insurance coverage, pharmaceutical, products, toxic and tort litigation.

Throughout its history, members of Picadio Sneath Miller & Norton, P.C., have been recognized for their accomplishments in the practice of law and have engaged in other law-related activities to assist the community as well as their clients. Mr. Picadio is listed in Best Lawyers in America for the fields of Environmental Law and Business Litigation and has been selected by his peers as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer. Mr. Picadio is a former chairman of an administrative tribunal charged with administering air pollution control regulations in the Pittsburgh region and has served as an adjunct Professor of Law at Duquesne University School of Law and as a speaker at seminars on various litigation and environmental law topics. He has served on the boards of a number of non-profit corporations engaged in conservation and information technology projects. He is Peer Review Rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell.*

Henry M. Sneath has extensive jury and bench trial experience and has consistently been voted by his peers as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer in Business Litigation. He is a fellow in the Prestigious Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County and is listed in Best Lawyers in America in five categories. He is the Immediate Past President and a National Member of the Board of Directors of the Defense Research Institute (DRI), past Chair of its Commercial Litigation Committee and former Chair of its Intellectual Property Subcommittee. He is active in the American, Pennsylvania and Allegheny County Bar associations in the Intellectual Property, Tort and Insurance and Federal Court Sections and is the Past Chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Section. Mr. Sneath is a Regional Editor of the national publication “The Business Suit” and he is a frequent program Chair, lecturer and course planner for national and regional seminars on a wide range of business litigation and intellectual property topics. Like his partners above, he is Peer Review Rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. Sneath joined the firm in August, 2002.

He is Peer Review Rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell

Lynette Norton, who passed away unexpectedly in 2002 at the age of 56, was named to Best Lawyers in America in 2001 for Business Litigation/Insurance Coverage. President Clinton twice nominated her to fill a vacancy on the bench of the District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, but the Senate never made a final decision on those nominations. Ms. Norton was also appointed to the Lawyers’ Advisory Committee for the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in 1997; was appointed to chair the Civil Justice Advisory Group for the Western District of Pennsylvania by Chief Judge of the district from 1995-98; was an adjunct Professor of Law at Duquesne University School of Law and wrote the book on insurance coverage in Pennsylvania, literally. The PBI published her book, Insurance Coverage in Pennsylvania, in 1997 and a supplement in 1998. A revised edition of the book is currently being edited and compiled by the firm.
